In order to understand the resurrection, you need to understand death. Some of you don’t understand either death or the resurrection of the dead.
You also don’t seem to understand the immortality of spirit and soul. When you are asleep or in a coma,it’s a lot like death. The main difference is that you wake up. While you are “dead” you are dreaming. Your mind, a part of the soul is active. You see yourself walking, talking, as you are alive. You go back to childhood, you move forward into the future. You see others. Yet you are dead in sleep, doing what we call “dreaming.”
When you are actually “dead,” the same thing is happening. But you are no longer in this dimension. You are alive in another dimension. Either heaven or hell. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. You are also present with other dead believers.
In Luke 16, Jesus presents a picture of the dead. They were ALL in hell. Some were in the upper chamber and some were in the lower chamber where the fire was. They were all alive in their spirits and their souls. Only their bodies were dead.
The rich nameless man was talking. He asked God if someone could rise and go from that place to warn their relatives not to come there. The Answer was not that this could not be done. The answer was.”they have Moses and the Prophets.” Anyway, they would not listen if someone would rise from that place and go warn them.
Luke 16:19-23 “There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day. But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. (You need to read the entire scripture.)
When the Lord was resurrected, he went into the upper chamber of hell, called Abraham’S bosom. He delivered all those who were in the upper chamber of Hades.
Ephesians 4:8-10 Therefore He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men.” Now this, “He ascended”—what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.
When he descended,—alive and in His resurrected body—- He went into the lower chamber where He preached.. Of course, the rich man of Luke 16 was still there, as he is today.
1 Peter 3:18-22 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.
Jesus is alive in heaven as are those who died and believed on Him are. The ones who were waiting on Him in the upper chamber called hell are alive with HIM also. THEY HAVE THEIR BODIES AS HE HAS HIS. MATT 27:51-53,
Matthew 27:51-53 Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.
This is the power of the resurrection of Jesus Christ!
You do not have to believe in His return to be born again. But a belief in His resurrection is absolutely essential. I have just explained this to you. It is up to God to cause you to believe it. When you do, you will be born again. Why, cause you are dead NOW, in the spirit. The bible says you are dead in your trespass and sins. YOu are walking around but you are dead.
Ephesians 2:1-3 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the a lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.
Do you understand this? Your eternal life depends on whether or not you do.
